The Heart Knows Best

My heart still remembers so much

All the memories I choose to forget

She reminds me with delicate whispers

The heartache of pain and regret

She watches the people around me

And captures the hints and the clues

She stands guard as I wander each day

And observes which directions I choose

She allows me to let in the strangers

She provides me enough room to breathe

And waits patiently as I fall deeper

And she hopes that the truth I will see

And just as my feelings start growing

And they begin to break down the walls

I can feel her trying to warn me

And I've learned to heed to her calls

You see she remembers so much

The lies, the deceit and the tears

She survived the pain and the heartache

That have damaged me over the years

And she tells me she must be protected

Deep inside I know that it's true

And though loneliness can cause some sadness

It hurts less than the broken hearts do

So I'll listen again to her warnings

I'll turn around and walk away

And I'll trust in all that she tells me

For the heart know’s what’s best anyway.
